In this post, information about AIDS is being given. AIDS is caused by infection with the HIV virus. HIV virus affects the body’s immunity. Especially to CD4+ T-lymphocyte (white blood cell) which due to the lack of T4 cells in the blood, the body’s ability to fight diseases.
AIDS
The full name of AIDS is Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. HIV infection is transmitted through unprotected sex, blood and blood products, or from mother to fetus. HIV infection is not spread by saliva, mosquitoes, air, water, food, touching the patient’s skin, clothes and eating utensils.
Types of HIV virus
There are two types of this virus –
- HIV 1
- HIV 2
HIV 1 is found all over the world, and HIV 2 is mainly found in West Africa. HIV 1 spreads rapidly.

Classification of AIDS
Various stages of HIV infection have been detected-
Primary infection –
A higher proportion of the virus is found in the blood of an infected person. This is the condition after 15 days to 30 months of infection.
Latent HIV infection
– About 10 years in developed countries and less than 10 years in underdeveloped countries.
Symptomatic aids –
Different diseases like herpes zoster, candidiasis, diarrhoea etc.
AIDS –
It is the most dangerous form, in which the patient suffers from diseases like death or cancer. He may die anytime.
Symptoms of AIDS
In the context of AIDS surveillance, as defined by the World Health Organisation, the disease is diagnosed in the following manner-
- In case of cancer and severe malnutrition.
- With any two of the following main signs –
- Weight loss of 10% or more of predicted total body weight within 6 months
- diarrhoea for more than 1 month
- persistent or intermittent fever for more than 1 month
